11/1/2023 0 Comments What does te amo mean![]() This adds a layer of complication for english speaking people because you only have one word for the same range of feelings of love, and that's why your teacher told you to say "te amo" only if it is serious, because as a generalization it's how it really works.Īs other comments are already explaining, there are many languages that have specific words for different kind of words. Amar (infinitive of Amo) means to love or have feelings for something, its use is more tied to the feeling part and that is why it is used to convey that. ![]() Querer (the infinitive form of the verb Quiero) has various meanings, the most used of those is to want, to crave or to desire. ![]() I think this explains a little what your question revolves around. A sentence like "Amo ir al cine" translates exactly "I love going to the movies", it expresses that you really like going to the movies but "Quiero ir al cine" then translation is "I want to go to the movies". As in every language (I believe) even if those are the strict meaning of the words, you could use those as hyperbole and in those cases it almost matches the english meaning of the word, and in some cases the translation sounds off. As some people already explained, there are different degrees of love and they are expressed with different words.
